Friends of Rotary Club of Plantation

FRIENDS OF ROTARY

Our club has created a group of friends and supporters known as ‘Friends of the Rotary Club of Plantation’. As the name suggests, the idea is to foster deeper links with people who we believe share our ideals of service and fellowship, but for one reason or another are unable to commit to full Rotary membership

So the Friends are an informal group, with no obligations of attendance or subscription. However we hope that by becoming a Friend you will wish to strengthen your association with the club, and that we will enjoy your participation at our service activities, our meetings, and social events.

By participation in the life of the club you will have an opportunity to learn more about Rotary and our members, which may help you to consider membership if/when your circumstances change.

You will be welcome to attend any of these functions on your own initiative, without requiring a specific invitation, but any associated costs will be for your own account. .To help you to see what events are coming up we will put you on our circulation list for email or paper bulletins.

The club will be arranged into social groups based on where members and Friends live, so you will be given a liaison point with the club through the team leader of the social group for your area. This group will also hold its own functions during the year, at which you will of course be welcome.

Please contact Asbjorn Osteig on (954) 261 2113 if you would like to find out more.

We are 50...

The Rotary Club of Plantation is entering it’s 50th year as a member of Rotary International. The club received it’s charter on March 8th 1962, the International Women’s Day.
The main celebration will be in 16th – 17th March 2012. We are still working on the details on will notify all fellow members as soon as we can.
In 1962, 28 men sat down in what was then a small city of 4,400 residents called Plantation. The city had been incorporated the year before. A number of organizations followed and we are now one of the many Community Service Organizations in the City.
In addition to serving Plantation, we also consider Sunrise our home turf. Especially since our current President both lives and works in Sunrise.
As much as we are looking back on our history the club has decided to focus very much on the future. We are promoting the New Generations program through establishing Interact clubs at both public and private schools.
Working with the New Generations, also requires that we use new media extensively. We have therefore launched a new multi-media focused web site. We are present on both Facebook and Linkedin, which we believe will be very important in our recruiting of new members and keeping both current members and others up to date on what we are doing. Recently we created a QR code, so that we can now be reached via your smart-phone.
The club has decided to focus on a few points this year. Points that are vital for our club not only to survive, but also to grow and thrive in the years to come. We are utilizing the resources of the district and area, to bring outside perspective and guidance.
The club has decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary low key, and instead of resting on the laurels for our achievements, we have chosen to focus on the challenges lying ahead.
The celebration will last for two days and include a Friday afternoon/evening tennis tournament and a Saturday Afternoon cocktail reception at the Plantation Historic Society. Further details will be distributed as soon as they are in place.
